How much of it is increased awareness and increased reporting (as opposed to an actual increase in occurrences)?

The rise in
  • Diabetes
  • Rapes, especially date rapes
  • Racism
  • Cannibalism
  • Sparkley vampires
  • Entertainers behaving badly

Based on what I've read, diabetes is way more prevalent because we live longer/have better health care/diabetics are living longer and thus able to breed. WAY better than the alternative.

Rape and any sort of violence is just being reported ... in every instance that comes to light. Based on statistics, violent crime and rape [in so-called 'civilized' countries is continuing to go down - as the population rises.]

Ober-reporting pretty much defines all 4 of the other topics, too. Media whores looking for attention and media addicts giving them their minutes of fame are to blame. [I'll admit to being a media addict, so I may be part of the problem.]
