A Day of Tangents
Apr. 27th, 2011 10:16 pmToday was a rest/recovery from the angio procedure, I watched a couple of episodes of Lie To Me, which continues to be one of the best-written TV shows ever, and usually pretty well acted. My only real gripe is the director has decided its trademark is to open every episode in a place with very poor lighting.
Also discovered a new instant justice faux courtroom show, "Judge Karen". Karen is a large black woman with a bright red-blond do wearing a red choir robe. She is very folksy and does not give the impression of someone well versed in the law. I would enjoy sitting next to her at a dinner party, but would never bring a legal case before her.
Lunch was a cheese omelet with bacon and olives. One of the goat cheeses is especially good in omelets, and I finished off the Black Creek Extra Sharp Cheddar.
The plan for the afternoon was to take the bus to the hospital and pick up my car. It was much less painful than I expected. The 32 bus came on time, and got me to the stop for the 51 bus with a tap of my Clipper card. The 51 bus was 15 minutes late, and completely empty when I boarded. Clipper card tapped again, and it dropped me off 10 feet from my car.
While I was waiting at the first bus stop, a recruiter called with an interview appointment for me for Friday at a company he'd gotten to do a phone screen recently.
Drove home by way of Ranch 99 market, but on a whim I went into the nextdoor Nob Hill grocery first. They had a huge selection of mass market gourmet cheeses, but nothing special. I managed to spend almost $50 there anyway, mostly on paté and herring. Re-stocked the Black Creek Extra Sharp Cheddar too. Ranch 99 was a surgical strike stop, BBQ pork and sesame balls at their deli.
Drove home, had some of the paté on sourdough baguette slices, then went over to the Computer History Museum for a Motorola Mobility demo/presentation/recruiting event.
All the presenters were new to Moto, none had been there for a year. I was laid off almost 2 years ago. One of the recruiters recognized me from Netflix, gave me his card and told me to call him. I don't recall seeing him at Netflix, and his LinkedIn profile doesn't list Netflix at all, so I'm guessing someone else pointed me out to him. Or maybe he had looked up some of the people who had been invited. Anyhow, it was good to be asked, I'll call in the morning. They had the usual CHM catered buffet, which was better than nothing but not particularly good.
Home, watched one of the worst episodes of Undercover Boss ever. FFed through most of it. Ate some of the Port Salud from Nob Hill, quite yummy.
Plans for tomorrow:
Call the Moto recruiter
Take it easy. Maybe it will be warm enough to go to the park and sit by the lake.
