I've used Tech CU for 30+ years now. Big Harold opened an account when he first moved up here 35 years ago and I followed a few years later. They are pretty good for a Large CU. It's easy enough to get a free checking account (direct deposit will usually provide it). And they aren't all fee crazy like the banks like monthly fee for using you debit card (WTF?). And they have enough branches and their tellers are usually good.
I have definitely not missed having a "Regular" bank in all that time.
You can even send the landlord the monthly rent check through BillPay and save yourself the hassle of finding a stamp or remembering to write the check!
