Walking to lunch, I was trapped behind a gaggle of Google folk. Young and in shape, yet they were ambling along like the walking dead. A phrase popped into my mind:

Slowest common denominator

Sounds like a good study in group dynamics - what makes a group of people, all of whom would normally be walking quickly if by themselves, slow down tremendously when in a group of their peers?

Returning to work I can understand, but heading to lunch? I don't get it.
