Wrong Roller Derby

howeirdJust returned from San Jose Skate, which is a helluva drive from home, in a downpour. I saw Silicon Valley vs Santa Cruz roller girls. I had paid $30 for a VIP ticket, which did get me a front row seat and pretty waitresses. The reason I was there is a long-time friend who is a roller girl advertised it on her FB page.
Here's the kicker. I had bought a ticket earlier to see Beauty & The Beast at Irvington HS in Fremont for tonight because I thought friend's roller derby was tomorrow in Redwood City. When she advertised the one for tonight, I thought it was the one she was ink, so I swapped my theater ticket for tomorrow and bought a ticket for Roller girls for today.
So I get there, and I don't see her, and the team colors are all wrong. It was a great seat, and challenging photography so not a total loss.
So the deal is I have the matinée tomorrow in Fremont, and then coffee with a friend in Mountain View, and that will last till about 6:30. The roller derby in Redwood City is over by 7, according to their FB event, which is strange because the only think I can find online says doors open at 5. To put this in perspective, a roller derby match is two 20-minute halves with a 15-minute halftime. But tomorrow may just be a scrimmage, which may be why it's not listed on the ticket site and is only $5.
I'm not a fan of the sport, but it's a real tough event to photograph.
