Oh, and "it doesn't matter" and "I don't care" are probably two different things. Yes, I do think it matters who people are and what their background is and where they came from and how they had to struggle to get there. However, I'm pretty much with you on not caring about it enough to, say, contribute money to anyone's cause. And I don't see how one group having a tough time is any different from various groups I (or others) may be part of having a tough time. Examples: My family is Jewish and some of our family members stayed behind in Hungary when the others emigrated. The ones who stayed behind died in Auschwitz. I perceive myself as having suffered from discrimination against people with respiratory disabilities. I'm an atheist, and atheists are still persecuted and discriminated against all over the place. When it gets to a point of putting one group's hardships up against another's, I call silliness and ask for a trial by a jury of parsnips.
