What am I whining about? I used to have a LOT of overseas customers. Now I'm getting fewer and fewer. A paperback that cost $5 to mail in 2003 now costs $23.95 for the same service. That's a 479% rate of inflation. It's far more economical for overseas readers wanting US books to buy ebooks. If my income, which was around $30,000 in 2003, had risen at 479%, I'd be making $143,700 this year. It's quite obvious to me the post office is doing this because they want to scare people into thinking they'll go out of business if they don't get to charge people 46 cents every time they send an email, or comment on someone's internet posting. I would be surprised if the USPS still exists 10 years from now. Instead of adapting to changing times, they're caught in a fruitless struggle against technology. I suppose, along those lines, I should go into business selling things that can't be digitized. Paper books are on their way out. LPs, CDs, all that, are relics of the past.
And when the USPS goes, prices at UPS and FedEx will skyrocket.
