Biked to work this morning

3.82 miles, 17 minutes, 13.5 mph average speed 20 mph top speed , though I suspect that's the top speed I've clocked on the meter and not the top speed this trip - which would be more like 15 mph.

Think of the gas savings . . . I walked my son to his dad's last evening to save gas and get a bit of exercise.

Well, whether I take light rail or ride the bike all the way, I still save the same amount of gas. At $3.25/gallon, 35 mpg in my Corolla, the 8-mile round trip costs a whopping 74¢ - the light rail pass at $65/month, 23 commuting days a month, works out to $2.82 per day.

Good Idea - riding a bike to work
Bad Idea - riding a bike to work in a billowy robe and a mask that impairs peripheral vision.

Hey, the armor will protect me.

Most of my ride passes alongside NASA and Lockheed Missles and Space, so the question is would any of those folks even blink at a Revan on a bike, or would I be the cause of 8-car pile-ups?

I think you are not getting that gas mileage out of your car for such a short trip probably a significant amount of the trip is at twice that burn rate as the car is warming up. And there are other costs for using your car in terms of maintenance.

Of course you are a lot safer in a crash in your car on that route than on your bike. That is a big plus.
