Re: polar bears, I highly recommend The Churchill Northern Studies Center in Churchill, Manitoba. Much cheaper than normal packages there, because you stay in dorms. Includes a couple of tundra vehicle excursions, helicopter ride over Hudson Bay, lectures on bear behavior. And they have a heated dome for aurora viewing. I went several years ago but a friend went last year and also enjoyed it.
