The Queen of the Grade B Westerns is Gone
Jan. 10th, 2007 09:19 pmYou may know her as Lily Munster, the vampirical, graceful MILF with the distinctive white streak through her long black hair on The Munsters TV series, but us older guys knew her as the only thing worth watching in a whole string of B movies, mostly westerns. Yvonne De Carlo passed away today at the age of 84.
IMDB lists 122 acting credits for Ms. De Carlo, starting in 1941 and spanning 6 decades. Born Peggy Yvonne Middleton on September 1, 1922 in Vancouver, BC, her early roles paint a picture:
Bathing Girl
Kitty O'Hara
Showgirl at Neptune Club
Student
Handmaiden
Secretary
Girl in Singing Quartette
Chorus Girl
Princess Wah-Tah
And so on. While she never landed a significant movie role aside from the Munster movies, she did show what a trouper she was by creating the role of Carlotta Campion in the original Broadway cast of Follies, which ran for more than a year in 1971-72.
