Somewhat Rushed
Apr. 6th, 2008 01:21 amManaged to have my nails done by about 2:30, went to Petco for litterbox liners, then across the street to the new Michael's, which has the most insane parking arrangement, and spent way too much time finding reasonably priced simple frames for the BayCon art show photos, but did come away with enough 11x14 frames and need two more 9x12's. Also mailed in my art show fee & the associated forms. A cute thing about that - they hid a password in the rules which you have to put on the form, to show you read the rules. Nice touch. I've reserved two 4'x4' panels. May not need that much space but more is better. What with La Mancha performances, I will need to take the afternoon off work on Friday to set up, and pick stuff up Monday. It seems our extra Saturday show is the following weekend, so I will be able to be at panels Saturday, but Sunday we have a matinée, so I'll probably miss that day's doings.
Decided not to stop off at Walmart, not enough time to wait in line on a Saturday afternoon. I can do that any evening this week except Monday.
At 5, hopped in the car and drove over the hill, took Renee to dinner, she picked out Kianti's, a pizza/pasta place on Pacific Garden Mall, where she apparently is a regular. Good food, reasonable prices, very busy (we had a 1/2-hour wait) but quick service. Excellent garlic cream sauce. Then we dropped in at the house of one of her friends who was having a birthday party. It was wrapping up by the time we got there, but I got to meet the cats and the kids, and it was a pleasant diversion. I taught the kids how to play Earthquake Chess, and Renee invented Tornado Chess for them.
Drove Renee home, but we chatted in the car for an hour, talking politics. At dinner we'd talked about her new life - she has given up on being a full time jazz drummer in Santa Cruz, but after a week in Boston where she landed ad hoc jobs teaching and sat in on a couple of jazz gigs, she is now firmly committed to moving there in a year where a musician can make a living wage. She has enrolled in an accredited online college, we know it's legit because she has already received enough financial aid to buy a laptop and printer, and should be able to finish her degree and get teaching credentials for Mass. during the next 2 years. It will be sad to lose the only local relative I have on my mom's side of the family, but it's the right move for her.
On my way over the hill I listened to the full Sunset Boulevard CD, and I am very disappointed. Only four melodies in the whole thing, it may as well have been a non-musical. Should have bought the highlights disc instead. At least then As If We Never Said Goodbye would have been worth the price of the album.
Back home now, looking forward to farmount's Easter Egg hunt tomorrow, if I wake up in time.
Monday I'll be at BASFA, probably my last non-rehearsal Monday till mid-May. I'll bring the Lightscribe CDs for bovil &
kproche to look at, and a couple of books to auction.
