Come Monday
Apr. 14th, 2008 11:50 pmWent to bed way too late last night, 7 am wakeup call was ignored, didn't need to be at work early so slept till 8. Domino licked me on the elbow to get me moving.
Busy day at work, managing some equipment which five of us share and now engineering needs to use too. Confirmed some bug fixes as well. More of the same tomorrow.
Went to my first blocking rehearsal, it went well. The guy playing the lead has lots of specific ideas about blocking, and some of the undertext of the play. Some directors would bridle at this, but his ideas are mostly excellent, and the director is mostly agreeing with the suggestions. I was done early, but stuck around to meet the leading lady and hear her read. Also got to hear her sing a little, and she is a joy to listen to. Fun person, too. Director added a line to my part, from the movie. I'm not sure how I feel about it - it gives the kindly Innkeeper a not so kindly agenda, somewhat out of character I think. But it does give a business reason for his putting up with Don Q's antics. It has been decades since I read Don Quixote, I suppose I should flip some pages and see which way the original character swings. Just to satisfy my curiosity.
We were missing two women, one due to illness, the other I think due to her not having any lines in the scenes we blocked. Tomorrow we're at the theater for head shots and music. The photographer is a fellow who was in the cast with me in Palo Alto's Jekyll & Hyde - he designed the T-shirts for that show, and we shared a dressing room. It'll be good to see him again.
