Academy of Sciences Grand Re-Opening 9/27

The California Academy of Sciences is re-opening in its new facility in Golden Gate Park a week from Saturday. Attendance is free (they start charging the next day) and they will be open 9:30 AM to 9:00 PM with opening ceremonies at 8:30 AM. Lots of music and activities are planned for the weekend. Marriage

Back when I was in my teens, one of the things which had a big "oooh aaaaah" factor was common law marriage. According to the law, if you lived with your partner for 7 years, you were married just as legally as if you had marched down the aisle in funny clothes with people throwing rice and rose petals at you. We all thought that was cool.

If common law marriage is the law in California, and is retroactive, then I know at least three gay couples who are legally married whether or not they do the dance of the red tape.

Price of Gas

I'm wondering why I am not hearing this call to end the war:

The troops in Iraq are using tons of gasoline. Bring them home, so it can be shipped here instead. It ought to lower the price at the pumps some.
