Turds Day

Got to work later than I wanted to, but still on time. The server was still effed up so I filed a support ticket on it. The support group are members of my department, they had been testers and automation folk before a re-org re-purposed them. My friend comes and I show him the problem, but he doesn't get it. It's out of his area of expertise, in that he has been taught that the server networking will always work like X, and he is not believing it can work like Y. Which it is.

So he took the machine back to his desk to work on it, and I plugged my test machine into the wall LAN and did the tests which required watching a lot of movies and TV.  I had told my lead about the horrible atrocity that was Mega Python vs Gateroid, and he said "you mean Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus?".  No, I said. He had me search on the Netflix page, and we found his - also starring Debbie Gibson, this time with Lorenzo Lamas. So that was my test movie. It was not as bad as the Syfy one, except for the bit characters' acting, of which there was none. TV show watched was the second to last episode of Lie To Me Season 2. The latter series is great for testing lip sync.

By 5 my server was not back yet, so I put the old desktop one in place, but it didn't have the right license to play movies with the new version of the player.

Went to CVS to pick up a couple of prescriptions, one was $70 for a month's supply. I thought that was supposed to be for 3 months - I'll have to check with Blue Cross. They spelled my name wrong on the prescription - I don't know if the mistake was made by PAMF or CVS - based on past experience, it'll be PAMF.

Home, watched the two All Cairo, All The Time channels (CNN & MSNBC) pounding away with the rumor that Mubarak will leave the country today (Friday in Egypt). Based on NOTHING.  Anderson Cooper is such a wuss - he's on a webcam in a curtained off room at "an undisclosed location" because he got roughed up yesterday. What kind of idiot goes into the middle of a protest in an Arab country without someone who reads and speaks Arabic?  CNN has completely lost their roots - the network originally started by having locals phoning in the news, and keeping the anchors at home where they belonged. MSNBC made the stupid mistake of sending their anchor to Cairo, but at least they also have an Arabic speaking American reporter who has been living in Egypt for many years.

That babble was in the livingroom while I was in the kitchen making a beef and veggies thing for the crock pot. The new food processor is amazing - sliced up onions and carrots and celery and zucchini very quickly and cleanly. I had to cut up the beef by hand, and that took a while. Braised it and dumped it on top of the veggies. Peeled garlic, canned mushrooms and canned peas and some cherry tomatoes went in without cutting.  Spiced with basil, bay leaf, thyme, paprika, black pepper. Maybe I should have added some Chinese rice whiskey, but did not want to overdo the liquid. Set it to slow cook for 10 hours. The kitchen already smells nice. Nicer in the morning.
