Spent most of the day at the PC ripping CDs, and finished a milestone. My CDs are on two racks, one hold all the mainstream commercial music, the other holds everything else. The first one has six shelves filled with everything from Harry James to Pink to Mel Tillis. Today I finished that rack.

The other rack has three shelves of show tunes, two of foreign music (mostly Thai pop singers), one of humor/filk/sound effects, and two of classical. My OCD says do the show tunes first because they are on the top shelves, and I sing along with them, so they are good for playing in the car. Common sense says do classical first, because I need some relaxing music in the car.

Did a lot of online shopping, things I could get at Safeway but online the prices are better, with further discounts for buying several of the same without having to stock an army's worth like you do at Costco.

Had a couple of hits on the job boards, and talked to a couple of local recruiters, but they didn't know what they were doing, so nothing to follow up on.

Did not go outside except to check the mail, which did not arrive by 5:30. Did not check it on my way to band practice at 7.

Band practice was relatively easy, but my lip was gone by the second to last number. An I was having trouble counting measures on some of the numbers. Hot lost a lot. Always found my way back, though.

Plans for tomorrow:
Job hunt
Pharmacy, pick up drugs
Manicure
mail in unemployment claim
Enjoy the sunshine

Table Talk

I'm sitting at a table in the Chinese fast food place, vacuuming up the tangerine boneless ribs and house chicken when a couple in their late 20's takes the table kitty corner to mine, in the corner nearest the front windows, maybe 3 feet away. He is Asian, she is Caucasian, and he is talking quietly and quickly in a language I do not recognize. It isn't anything Asian, though. She answers, also in a quiet voice, a mile a minute. She faces the window, so her back is mostly toward me but since she is closer to me than he is, I can hear her a little better. It's an Eastern European language, not Russian but related.

After a few minutes of this quiet back and forth, she starts sobbing and crying while she is talking. His side of the conversation is not angry at all, his tone of voice is reasonable. It might be him breaking up with her, or he may be her shoulder to cry on. I don't understand the words, and here are no real cues.

The conversation ends, they take their (soft) drinks with them as they leave. They walk close together through the parking lot, past my car. She notices my license plate. She looks back and sees me looking at them, then they move on. I think she was wondering how much of her conversation I understood.
