That phrase was in the masthead of more than one Colonial period newspaper, including, I think, Ben Franklin's. Brainworm from when  I was a Communications major and took a class in early American journalism. My term project was to find how all 13 colonies covered the Declaration of Independence. Most of them didn't. And most of the ones which did were a week to a month late. I think it was the Raleigh, North Carolina paper which had more news from England than from the soon to be United States. BTW, every s was printed as an elongated lower case f. It came from the German character for "ss".

Work. Team meeting at 10, going away lunch at 11:45 for our long-time marketing manager, a victim of the layoffs. Incredibly stupid of the parent company, this man was making them a lot of money. He remembered that I'd been laid off and re-hired, which gave him some hope. It would be good to see him back.

Finally got the build which fixed the issue which was blocking my testing, and now that brings up another issue which I had been hoping would be fixed as collateral un-damage, but it wasn't. I'll file that bug tomorrow.

Home, briefly, to pet the cat, then to the theater for what was supposed to be a "spacing" rehearsal. Director went micro on us, we barely got the first act done by 10. She also pulled two moves for me out of her ass - that baggage thing I mentioned yesterday and she added me to a scene which I had never been in before, for no purpose I can see.

As predicted, the set was not safe to use, I went up on the balcony and discovered it was so high I had to duck for the lights. It is WAY too high, and when I saw that the stairs not only did not have their railings yet, but also were not tied down, I refused to go up there again. I think I'll have them change my blocking so I am not up there at all, even tied down it's too high, with no safety rail. Scares me shitless.

Early in the rehearsal schedule the director told me E spoke Chinese and would be happy to help me with my Chinese line. E is ethnically Chinese, but talking to her tonight I find she speaks only English and Spanish. Her folks did not want her to have an accent, so they kept her away from Chinese languages. Her English is 100% American, so they did good. It turns out the 6' tall redheaded dancer with whom I am paired for most of the show has had some rudimentary Chinese tutoring, but she doesn't know much more than I do. There's a rumor the leading lady (another redhead) speaks Chinese, but I doubt it. I'll have to ask, 'cause you never know.

Funny thing is director said she loved my Chinese line. The one which was all wrong. It sounds right to a non-Chinese.

Pieces of the movable set pieces fell apart. Pieces we were supposed to be able to grab onto and lean on. FAIL. They are free-standing, and would fall over with a slight tap.

More and more clusters in this show. I can't wait for it to be over.

Plans for tomorrow:

Car to dealer for 50k mile check-up & brake job
Work
No rehearsal, so maybe *$s for eye candy, because there isn't any in the cast or crew.
