Back in 19-aught-71 I took a class at the UW called Legislative Reporting. The professor was well-connected with the newspapers around the Northwest, and managed to land us all official Olympia reporter positions with newspapers which were too far away to send their own. Most of them were smaller publications, but I was handed one of the largest outside of Seattle and Spokane, the Walla Walla Union Bulletin. I blame this on the act that I'd worked on the campus paper for three years, and he was its publisher.
I just got some spam email from a genealogy site which used as its hook a thumbnail of the front page of the Jan 31 1971 edition of the Union Bulletin. I have the top bylined article on the page, which is kind of amazing because that's the day Apollo 14 launched.
