I used to have a ladle
May. 3rd, 2016 10:15 pmDid not rest nearly as much as planned. Woke up remembering I have all the ingredients for my home made chicken soup, and decided to make a cauldron of that. 8 gallons, I think. Maybe 6. So I pull out of the freezer the chicken drumsticks, gizzards & hearts, a big parsnip. I reach for the onion in the hanging basket, and it's a pair of apples. Forgot the the onion self-destructed.
So off to Lucky's because they are closest, for
- Onion
- celery
- carrots
- mushrooms
Since they had nice ones cheap, one leek
And while I was there, bananas, orange juice, lactose free milk (but the price was too high to buy more than one half gallon)
Strawberries were on sale so I bought a pair of containers.
Was tempted to do all my frozen food shopping as well, but sanity broke through.
Home, where I already have garlic cloves, chicken broth, a pepper grinder, salt, basil, bay leaf, rosemary, green peas, lima beans, barley. Just a 1/4 cup of each of those last 2, because I want soup not stew.
Cover with water, stir a lot, cook over lowest heat.
That done, lunch was a pair of corn dogs, orange juice and a mango Popsicle.
Somewhere in there I dumped the strawberries into a big bowl and added a cup of vinegar to 4 cups of water. I keep forgetting that they only need to rinse for a minute. I suppose half an hour won't hurt. Dried them off and re-boxed them, they should keep in the fridge longer than it takes me to eat them.
Found two jobs to apply for online. Watched a lot of Tivo. I have been getting my emo on with #LongLostFamily which matches adopted children with birth parents long after children are grown. So far they have only been airing successes where they locate a living relative who agrees to meet the child who had been given up. Usually it's a parent and child, but sometimes it's siblings. It's by the same folks who do Who Do You Think You Are? with a lot more Ancestry DNA matching. Funny, today I got spam from ancestry telling me they have found many DNA matches for me, which is amusing because I never sent them any. And when I went to the page, it said they had 0 direct matches, one 3rd cousin and 2,000 or so 4th-7th cousins. Whoope dee doo.
Could not find my ladle. Vague memories of it being destroyed in the new dishwasher or on the gas range. Used a serving spoon instead, but it wasn't pretty. The soup is fabulous, I finished two bowls. Coconut Popsicle for dessert.
Got email from a recruiter at Roku asking for a phone chat appointment. It was already past her office hours, so I suggested tomorrow morning. One of the big wheels at Roku was the manager who hired me both times I was at Kasenna.
Plans for tomorrow:
Get more rest.
Hopefully that phone call
