Mostly sleepless night. Lying down made all the post natal drip flood my throat, which triggered sharp bursts of coughing, sometimes had to sit up and do my brass instrument breathing exercises to calm it down.

Early morning Nyquil, Robitussin and chicken soup only helped a little. I know ice cream is wrong (dairy makes more snot) but it feels good at the time. And I have a big jar of maraschino cherries to use up. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

10-ish, took a shower because that always helps, steam and such.

Felt like a zombie with a sore throat, spent most of the day in the LayZBoy watching BadFootball™. 49ers lost again - 0 and 5. This game and the last they came within inches of pulling it off, but the team seems to have a Will To Lose®.

Got to Janice's at 4, she was having a problem with her new-ish laptop and email on her phone and tablet. Took a long time to decide that the laptop's wi-fi adapter was broken. It wouldn't DHCP correctly. It couldn't grab a gateway address, so while it could connect to the router, it couldn't see the internet. I could have manually forced it for her home use, but this is the laptop she uses away on Red Cross emergencies, so that wasn't a good idea. I suggested taking it back to Best Buy and as a work-around she could buy a USB wi-fi adapter.

The email was kind of funny. I had recommended she change her passwords so that she had one for financials, one for social and one for everything else, and use the 8-character format of Xxxxxxnnnn! which she did, on her PC but she forgot update her phone and laptop.

She was going to buy me something at Starbucks but I was dying, so I went home and watched more football, and The Orville. I am liking that show as much as I expected to, but in a different way. I expected more of a comedy, and superficial characters. Instead we get serious social issues, a deep look at some of the less likely characters, and dick jokes. It is true to the look & feel of ST, but with a fallible captain. Fallible, but not a laughing stock.

When Nyquil & Robitussin didn't work, I remembered Afrin. That helped enormously, and I was able to get to sleep for about 90 minutes at a time. Spook mostly stayed curled up in the bedroom.

Plans for tomorrow:
Try going to work
Call Kaiser advice nurse
Get better drugs

Afrin helped. I was able to sleep almost normally, except waking up about 2x as often.

Up at 7:30, on the road at 8:20, after the initial on-ramping, 101 was reasonably light. 50 mph, 65 at the last stretch.

Work continued manual tests from Friday, it was cool in the morning, 55-ish. Pretty comfortable. It never really got warm enough for the newly repaired aircon to make a diff.

Lunch was a Jimmy whatshisname sausage croissant. Famous Amos.

Back to the hole, when I ran out of soda I switched to green tea (room temp by then).

5:30, drove to Safeway, called Kaiser from their parking lot. 5:50, scheduled a doctor phone appt for 6:20, went into Safeway to get fresh Nyquil & Dayquil, as soon as I had my hands full the phone rang. It was Kaiser, but I couldn't answer. Back to the car, I figured by 6:20 I would be home, and I was just pulling into the carport when the doctor called. Made an appointment for 9 am tomorrow. My PCP is out of the office, they scheduled me with someone else.

Cup of noodles became dinner, watched football.

To bed about 9 pm, one of the wake-ups realized the sleep number bed was way too low, reset to 100, then down to 90. Much better.

Plans for tomorrow:
Up with the alarm, plan on 45 minutes to get to Kaiser. It's the same distance as work, but the last few miles is slower.
9 am doctor appt.
Lab tests dues A1C & PSA
Pick up drugs if prescribed

Much better sleep with Afrin, and the cold backed down a notch. Spook mostly slept in her doggie bed. Most of the 20 times I got up to pee she didn't notice. The higher sleep number was a good choice. But the trade-off was aching all over and not a lot of range of motion until after I got out of the shower.

Up at 6, 6:30, 7 and finally with the alarm at 7:30. Got onto the road at 8:15 expecting to be at Kaiser early, but 101 was a parking lot, even the diamond lane. I got off where I usually get on from back roads, and from then the green light gods smiled upon me. I was only about 5 minutes early, and there was a line at registration, and they sent me to the wrong side of the hallway.

A short wait for Dr., who said I had a sinus infection which started as a virus. Two parts to fix it, one is an antibiotic to disinfect, the other is to decongest my sinuses. For the latter she really wanted me to do a series of in the nose, out the mouth washes, but there is just no way. Sudafed was another way, but not with my high blood pressure. She also said I was contagious, and offered to write a doctor's note for work, which I didn't need, but I got the hint. (I work alone, not close enough to anyone to contage)

So, downstairs to bleed (I was due for an A1C and a PSA test), and then to the pharmacy to pick up the ampicillin, and also some ocean spray, which doc suggested as an alternative to the full wash thing. I may not use it.

Home, took Evelyn to Fair Oaks, which is the least number of stop lights and all 35 mph. Put my packed lunch away, made some more ginger ale, had another cup-o-noodles for brunch, and vegged in front of the TV. Air quality is back to normal again, the winds from the fire have shifted, so I sat on the porch a bit, but not much hummingbird activity so back to the TV.

Took the first pill, downed the last of the generic dayquil, made some lime soda and a couple of corn dogs for lunch. Took a nap, was out like a light for an hour. No coughing, yay! Spook followed me around, parking herself half a foot from wherever I was.

Had a WTH moment, hopped in the car, drove down the block to the Grocery Outlet looking for sudfed, and instead found an Advil combo ibuprofen+ the non-regulated clone of sudafed. And in a twist, Vicks now makes a knock-off of Afrin.

Home again, took an Advil+, fired up the PC and did LJ updates for the two nights I missed. Facebooked. Set up the big humidifier in the bedroom.

Took another stab at fitting the Lionel tracks together, but they won't go flush. Spent half an hour online seeing that most of the train sets have those gaps, so not an issue. Also was reminded that the set I bought won't fit on the coffee table, so when it is built it will be on the floor. Rug on top of carpet.

Dinner was Marie C herb roasted chicken, halvah for dessert. I'm now feeling about 80%, and think I'll take one more advil+ and ampicillin + insulin and go to sleep.

Plans for tomorrow:
Plan A (if I slept well and am feeling well)
Work till noon
1 pm car appt in Redwood City
Home & relax

Plan B (not enough sleep but feeling human)
Sleep in
1 pm car appt in Redwood City
Home & relax

Plan C (feeling like crap)
Stay home, cancel car appt.
