Woke up this morning at 6:15, did not really need one but a pit stop made me more comfortable, enough to hit the snooze button at 7:31 and not wake up for reals till 8. Spook yelled at me at that time, on the bed but not accepting petting.
As usual, sat on the side of the bed for a minute before getting up, and when I got up was blasted by severe dizziness. Held on to the clothes cabinet to steady myself, realized that a 7-foot-tall stack of plastic boxes was not very stable, and inched over to the bathroom door jamb.
The dizziness passed, but returned three more times before I was dressed and in the kitchen.
AG phoned at 8:30, expecting me to be on the road as he was, he was driving to CalTrain. We had a nice chat, but I had to put him on speaker to take my meds and shoot up and do my blood sugar test, etc. I really ought to charge my $500 BT headphones, which I got mostly so I could use them with the phone. But I get/make calls so rarely...
More dizziness on the way to the car. It was pouring rain, and the garbage trucks had not arrived yet.
Took back roads to work, because rain, and was happy that there was only one bicyclist stupid enough to be riding in the downpour.
But this is where Uber/Lyft infuriates me. Many of those drivers had no clue how to drive in the rain, and even less of a clue how to navigate in slow traffic. Amazon engineers use them a lot. Google not so much, because they have a HUGE bus fleet.
More dizziness walking to the break room. There were lovely ripe, big bananas. Also a huge breakfast spread in the hallway for a "media action offsite". Some maneuvering was needed.
The walk to the hole was a little dizzy, exacerbated by the fucktards in security latching the front door closed, so I had to walk uphill in the rain through the bushes to get to the back door. They did this on the Prez Day weekend as well.
Did some testing, the TV I'd left powered off was somehow on, but frozen at the boot logo. Had to unplug/replug it.
Ran some automated tests, tried to fix the name of the machine which didn't match what was on the Big Company's database, but it still didn't like it.
Watched a lot of twitch and YouTube, and pulled up all the news web sites. But when a small wave of dizzy hot me while I was just sitting there looking between the screen to my left and the one in front of me, I went to Kaiser's web site and scheduled an appointment with my GP. She had one and only one for 4:45.
I messaged Boss I'd be leaving at 4, she's okay with any and all doctor visits. She was WFH because of the rain (she rides a Ducati).
Eventually 4:15 rolled around and I drove to Kaiser. No wait at all for the nurse to bring me in to take vitals, but doc didn't show up till 5:20. After a series of tests, she said what I had was Left-sided benign paroxysmal positional vertigo. Left-sided because it happens when I turn to the left (and not when I turn to the right). She said it is caused by calcium deposits in the inner ear breaking loose and rattling around, and it should pass in hours/days/weeks.
But because of my other conditions, she had her assistant come in with the EKG cart. Result is I also have a newly acquired atrial fibrillation. The lab was closed by now, so I need to come back and bleed for them tomorrow, change my baby aspirin to real aspirin, and wait to hear from pharmacy specialists on whether I need to go on blood thinners, and what kind. When I mentioned it, she said rat poison is out (it's too old fashioned). She doesn't think the heart foo has anything to do with the dizzy spells, but it's not out of the question.
Aspirin made me ask if she had read The Andromeda Strain. She hadn't. Apparently had never heard of Michael Crichton either.
Drove down the block to UPS and dropped off the return package. Amazon has improved the system, now they will let you combine returns in a single package.
Since I was halfway there, instead of home I went to the MV 99 Ranch market ISO lamyay, but they didn't have any. As I was shopping I felt an insulin reaction coming on, so I added chocolate mochi and Haagen Dasz ice cream bars to my basket. Bought onions, tangerines, mushrooms too. They also were out of durian ice cream.
Ate 4/6 of the mochi in the car, then went next door to Nob Hill for real ice cream (to finish off the root beer in the fridge). They did not have frozen matzo balls, so I bought a jar of the smaller ones. And since they had the full Easter collection out, I got a dark chocolate Lindt hollow rabbit for the ceremonial beheading, when the time comes.
Home, Zoe hid behind the futon when I came in. :-(
Dinner was 4 of those matzo balls in chicken broth with home grown oregano and store bought garlic and a big piece of Banquet breaded fried chicken breast, and green peas. It was pretty good.
Dessert was a root beer float with chocolate brownie ice cream.
Emailed doc with a link toThe Andromeda Strain ( the book, not the movie)
Watched PTI and the news, disappointed that they did not air the interview with my astronomer friend they did up on Mt. Hamilton - about the snow, not the science. NBC local is all about the weather, so they did cover the hail in Sacto.
I wore the new shoes all day, and boy, what a difference half a size makes. The 11.5's flopped around something awful, the 11's are perfect.
Plans for tomorrow:
Blood test
Work
Drop off the rent
Home

Feb. 27th, 2018 11:02 pmBeen sleeping well, not waking up for pit stops at 3-4 am, but waking up an hour before the alarm instead. And then going back to sleep after a token pit stop.
Roused myself a little early today because the first stop was Kaiser lab, $30 for a blood test. CBC (COMPLETE BLOOD COUNT) results came in this afternoon, everything in the normal range except as usual platelet count is toward the upper limit. CREATININE AND CALCULATED GLOMERULAR FILTRATION RATE came in as I was writing this, Creatinine was a little over the limit, it usually is, filtration rate was also out of range by a little, as usual. Not panic time numbers, but they may influence what blood thinner they will/won't prescribe for me.
To work from there, plenty of parking but also a big crowd in the break room, both conference rooms were in use and people were late getting into them. Got one of the last 4 bananas.
Opened the door to the hole for a maintenance guy who really just needed access to the open part of the building, but it was nicer to sit inside and wait for the person with keys than out in the cold. He eventually got let into the room he needed, but didn't manage to get the heat working any better than it was yesterday.
Another day with nothing to do, so I played a couple of episodes of the Jane Fonda/Lilly Tomlin thing on Netflix. Superb production values, good acting, craptastic script. The no-spoilers plot is Jane's and Lilly's husbands, who are law partners, divorce them to become a gay couple. Jane is a retired successful beauty products mogul, Lilly is a hippie dippie flake. IRL Jane would have shot her 5 minutes into episode 2.
On the other TV, I watched some Twitch then switched to YouTube, I Can See Your Voice/Thailand.
Lunch was beef in BBQ sauce steamer bowl and grapes. Lots of eye candy wandering through, as well as their antidote. Lots of scruffy looking people whom I doubt are engineers or marketers.
Back to the hole, ate a brownie, and a small cup of PNB&J and a tangerine. Not all at once. Signed up for a Thai dating site which said they match Thai women who live in the USA, but they lied. Everyone online was in Thailand, except for men, who were all over the world.
Did some research on vertigo, and suspect mine is more heart related than doc thought at first.
Boss bailed again. After the meeting time, again. I've stopped acknowledging the new calendar item.
Dropped off the rent on the way home. Short month.
Home, made some fresh root beer for later. Played with Zoe, who is back to liking me again. Filled her water fountain & righted her 3-tier toy. She likes my socks, thinks they are a small animal.
Dinner was the rest of the breaded fish, topped with melted Swiss & brie. And mixed veggies.
Watched PTI and the news. Still with the fire follow-ups. And too much weather. My friend at Lick was once again not shown. Instead they showed snow in Contra Costa & Alameda Counties but said it was in Santa Clara County. Fake news. Lick is in SC County.
Beach House was worthless again. The last thing I want to see in a beach house is the parental units, and this was Mom's day followed by parents' day. Gag me. 3xFF.
Ordered another pack of Sheba meat sticks. Have not heard back from HSSV. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe never.
