The only time altitude bothered me was in Cusco - 11,200 ft. And we arrived by plane from sea level early in the morning and went by bus on a tour to lots of places one as high as 13,000 ft. I could hear and feel my heart beating all night. No problem the next day at Machu Picchu at a meet 7,000-8,000 feet.
