Prep Day

Nothing on the calendar today, but tomorrow a plumber is coming early to install a new garbage disposal and kitchen faucet, so I moved everything from below the sink to the top of the washer. I'd run and emptied the dishwasher yesterday.

Another chore done: removed the filter basket from the aquarium pump, washed it off and replaced the sponge with a new one. Then added three buckets of treated water to bring the tank level up.

Nothing on Tivo. Fired up the smart TV, opened Twitch and vegged out watching Soflowildlife in try to catch and tag fish. The weather was beautiful, he had a clear signal, and he was not catching much so it was relaxing. He talks too much and too rapidly so I muted him and listened to the Las Vegas/Clark County fire department scanner on the tablet's Scanner Pro app. That scanner had been out of service for weeks, nice to have it back again. Heard two building fires, a dumpster fire and a call for help to the Bureau of Land Management which had too many brush fires for LVFD to handle. Winds were fierce today. Also some ambulance calls, and the usual communications where a fire truck was sent to a scene without the full address and/or the code to get in.

Flipped between Top Rank Boxing and the UNLV/Arizona women's basketball game. It was very close, and UNLV got off to a good start but fell apart in the final 3 minutes. Note to Lady Rebels: passing the ball out of bounds is not a winning strategy. Spook sat on my lap for much of this.

Food: 2 avocados and a banana for breakfast, walnuts & cashews & honey snack. The las to the shrimp for lunch. Sat outside for a while with strawberries, coconut water and whipped cream. Almost did not have dinner - ended up with Lean Cuisine spaghetti & meatballs and a fruit cup.

A big distraction is my blood glucose meter stopped communicating with the phone app. Pulled out my spare meter, and the same thing. Removing and replacing the battery did not fix it - until I realized the el cheapo batteries I bought a ton of were under-powered. Found a Sony battery, and my meter perked up.

One other thing - for the first time since January 5 I took a shower. I don't have grab bars in there and it took till now to trust my balance. It was great. And a missing piece to my morning routine.

While I was in there I noticed the clock radio was still set for standard time. Easy to fix, later.

What else? Took the recycleds and the kitchen garbage to the bins outside.

Watched a hummingbird fight the honey bees for access to the feeder.

Read a chapter on the tablet's Kindle app from a truly trashy sci-fi novel. The 28th Gate

Tomorrow:
Wake up early in case the plumber shows up at the start of the 8-10 am window.
