Driving home last night and moreso driving to work this morning, the sun was a red I have not seen for a long time. And then I remembered the fire. I used to see this kind of sun every day when I lived in slash-burning country east of the Cascades, and then again when I was visiting NE Thailand during their slash-burning season. And once again when a huge forest fire smoked up the skies over Raymond, WA when I lived there in '78.

Yeah, I was thinking of all the forest fires in Greece. I'm sorry, and a little puzzled, that they were hit so hard. It is easier to understand with the rugged terrain around California (and by extension Washington), but maybe Greece is as rugged as here.

I don't know my European terrain.

No one was saying that in the news but I kind of wondered. We didn't have the reserves around to send in, since they are all in Iraq or recovering therefrom, but we could have sent them a load of convicts we'd used for fire fighting in the past . . .

That is what finally happened. If you come across an article explaining the whole thing, post a link. I understand the politics are still playing themselves out.
