The donation people at SF street fairs have become increasingly demanding over the years. I have never heard of it being required before, this is a new and unwelcome development.
It might work to start ranting that you have business in the neighborhood and have no intention of attending the fair. Its lying but all is fair in the rough and tumble world of street fairs.
