I understand what you mean. Kathe and Phil's armor suits are still very shiny and new-looking, since they haven't done any aging/distressing yet. I guess in my mind I make the mental leap of "Well, Theoden is the king, and Gamling is his captain, so of course their suits of armor look shinier!" :)
