Maybe it was the sudden drop in temps, and maybe it was because I've taken down all the dead hanging plants which got fried while I was in Atlanta, but the hummingbirds were hitting the feeder like mad today. Which gave me a chance to test my new Nikon D70 camera, using a couple of lenses I used to use on the film camera (Nikon 8008).

The first few shots I had plopped myself down on the stuffed chair on the patio, which had me shooting into the sky, so the birdies are all in silhouette. That was the only time I have ever seen more than one at a time at the feeder, let alone three at once!

The rest of the pictures I moved to the fence, shooting toward the apartment, which put the light behind me. I have to day the colors are brighter in the photos than what I saw while I was shooting them.

Oh yeah, these are small versions - 800 pixels wide. The originals are 3008 pixels wide. If you want to see what that looks like, I uploaded one fro last week at http://www.howeird.com/images/DSC_0041.JPG It's about 3MB big, so if you're on dial-up don't even think about it.
