Is it completely out of the question that there is a genetic/instinctive component to homophobia? Is it completely out of the question that there is a component of choice in homosexuality?
Certainly acting on either one of these is a choice.

Animal studies imply that homosexuality aids in an increased survival rate for offspring and is a net positive for encouraging a species to thrive. [cf. 'Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity'].
