Over on the Book of Face, a cousin of mine has "shared" several articles with the heading "Homosexuality isn't a choice...homophobia is"

I wonder

Is it completely out of the question that there is a genetic/instinctive component to homophobia?  Is it completely out of the question that there is a component of choice in homosexuality?

Certainly acting on either one of these is a choice.

Having sexual thoughts are a product of genetics, personal biochemistry, upbringing and the environment one grows up in. Acting on any sort of sexual impulse is a matter of choice.

IMO homophobia is much more a matter of upbringing than biochemistry. Animal studies imply that homosexuality aids in an increased survival rate for offspring and is a net positive for encouraging a species to thrive. [cf. 'Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity'].
