One of my favorite anecdotes about my parents is musical. They had been engaged for a long time before they married, and somewhere along the line Mom gave Dad a record of this song:

I WANNA GET MARRIED
From the Broadway Show "Follow The girls" (1944)
Phil Charig / Milton Pascal / Dan Shapiro)
Sung by Gertrude Niesen (Broadway Production) - 1944

Everything is ready for the wedding
The Choir's been rehearsing for a week
The Minister is standing in the pulpit
But the groom it seems is playing hide and seek
Well, here I stand, waiting starry-eyed
When will I ever get to be a bride?

I wanna get married
I wanna get spliced
I wanna get knotted and see my friends potted
I wanna be confettied and riced

They say that married life
Is what one makes it
I'm sure I've got what it takes
But no one takes it

I wanna get settled
Crawl into a shell
I wanna start cooing and spend my life doing
The things that mom and pop used to spell

Give me a cottage small
Where the railroad never stops
I wanna sleep in pajama tops
I wanna get married

I wanna get married
I wanna get spliced
I wanna get knotted and see my friends potted
I wanna be confettied and riced

Let others play the field
I'd rather choose one
I want to order twin beds
And only use one

I wanna get settled
I wanna play house
The men are all no good, they say it feels so good
To have your own particular louse

They say that magic thrill
When they play "Here Comes The Bride"
Works better than Sulfanilamide
I wanna get married

Dad's answer was to give Mom a copy of this record:

I Only Want A Buddy, Not A Sweetheart
Written by Eddy Jones

I only want a buddy, not a Sweetheart
Buddies never make you blue
Sweethearts make vows and they're broken
Broken like their hearts are broken, too

Don't tell me that you love me, say you like me
No lover's quarrels, no bungalows for two
Don't turn down lovers' lane
Just keep right on a-sayin'
I only want a buddy not a gal.

What is romance, but takin' a chance?
Dealing with misery
I was a fool, but just like in school
I've learned my lesson, you see;

I only want a buddy, not a Sweetheart
Buddies never make you blue
Sweethearts make vows and they're broken
Broken like their hearts are broken, too

Don't tell me that you love me, say you like me
No lover's quarrels, no bungalows for two
Don't turn down lovers' lane
Just keep right on a-sayin'
I only want a buddy not a gal.
---
The tune was later turned into the "I wish I was an Oscar Meyer Wiener" song.
