Nice photo of me & mom taken by old family friend Barbara Weinstein (whom I had not seen in 40-some odd years) back in August. Found it under the sewing machine last night. It's a long story.
Or you can view it in all its HTML framed glory here.
Story? Oh, story. Well, it's really several stories which came together.
Story 1: We moved from NY to Seattle when I was in 9th grade, my big sister (Briana) was in 10th. She kept in touch with many of her NY friends, many of whom visited her after she moved to Israel. Barbara is one of those friends.
Story 2: Briana, her husband Ben, their youngest daughter Avigail and her husband Itamar scheduled a visit to my parents in Seattle. When they first made those plans, I had no way to be there. But things changed, and I decided to surprise them. So when they went to visit my little sister (Shaari) I got there an hour ahead of time, along with my long-time friend, and Shaari's wedding photog, Michael. It was a huge surprise, and worked exactly as planned.
Story 3: The next day I went to the ancestral manse in Seattle to be at home with the parental units, Briana's crew and Shaari. While we were there, Mom got a call from Barbara, who had decided to do the same thing I'd done, and fly in from NY to surprise Briana.
So Barabara took this lovely photo of me & my mom, and a few others of various gathered family, and snail-mailed this one to me.
Story 4: In early September, pants were on sale for $9 a pair, shorts cost $15. I needed several pairs of shorts, so I set up the sewing table did some cutting and hemming, and being the bachelor slob that I am, this table became The Place To Put Suff. Barbara's letter with the pix went there when it arrived in early September, and as the Law of Missing Socks states, matter can neither be created nor destroyed, but it can be lost forever by simply placing it where it will be easy to find "later". In this case, it found its way under the sewing machine, and I found it when I went to hem a pair of jeans last night.
Never got the jeans hemmed - decided to scan the photo and do corresponding the LJ and email instead.
