Dawn is hard. It isn't pronounced so much as it modifies the a. If it isn't there then it is pronounced Dan (rhymes with Dam). Since my dawn doesn't rhyme with dam, I voted yes.
'Round these hyar parts whar I's from, "mischievous" does NOT have a hard "e" in it anywhere, any more than "mischief" is pronounced "Miss Cheef." So, neither on that'n.
