Maybe I Will Vote GOP After All
Aug. 28th, 2012 09:42 pmObama has turned out to be a closet warmonger, a total economics moron, and a complete failure at delivering national health care and safeguarding Social Security. And anyone who says they did not vote for him because he appears to be black is lying. He has used his appearance to foster the illusion that his ancestors were slaves while the truth is he's almost as white as I am. I just didn't get the dominant genes. And now he's launching attack ads because, frankly, he doesn't have a positive record to run on.
Romney at one time was a successful governor of a blue state. He worked with a Democratic majority in the state legislature, until they got all partisan on him near election time. He did a great job running the Olympics. He got his law degree from the same place as Obama, without affirmative action helping him.
The vast wealth he has he earned himself, though he did get a good start from his dad, but his dad came to the US as a child with next to nothing, and Mitt had three siblings to share that with. Obama did not have that object lesson, for all practical purposes an only child, his father being from a wealthy and well-connected family and his mother of upper middle class parents.
I don't think Obama stands a chance against what is sure to be an even more Republican Congress. And he hasn't been a strong enough advocate of women's rights or LGBT rights to make a difference on those issues.
All things considered, I would rather have the slimeball who says what he stands for than the one who lies about it.

Date: 2012-08-29 05:34 am (UTC)Oh, and if the republicans win, and turn out to be the nightmare many predict, in the long run it will be a good thing, because the backlash against them will be decisive - particularly in 20 years or so when the demographics move what are now considered "minorities" to the majority.
Have you ever heard the story Arlo tells about the rabbits hiding in the log, with a pack of vicious dogs outside. One rabbit says to another, "How long are we gonna stay in here?"
The answer: "'Til we outnumber them."

Date: 2012-08-29 12:42 pm (UTC)Fair warning, you will like be the only Republican voting person on my friend's list and I do have a short fuse. So if I defriend you, it's nothing personal except that I detest Republicans. I won't get upset if you take the initiative and kick me off. I'm not a Democrat and I do not like Obama much, except that I like him a lot better than any Republican. Heck if a Republican runs against a sea cucumber, I will be voting against the Republican.
And no, the last thing I ever want is to debate the pros and cons. I will vote how I vote and you will vote how you vote.

Date: 2012-08-29 06:47 pm (UTC)By now we have heard most of the pros and cons, but I am seeing way too much of what my 12th grade social sciences teacher called hero worship, from both sides. Mr. Cosgrove said many times that one of the main things which separates a first world country from a third world country is third world countries go in for hero worship of their Leader.
I don't have that gene which causes people to stop thinking once they have chosen their hero.

The kind of cynicism that would vote in the woman-hating fundie Christian plutocratic racist Republican agenda just because you think the wrong guy got the Dem nomination in 2008 (and I'm sorry, but it still sounds like that to me, especially since you mention Hillary in a comment) stuns and appals me. So I'm going to assume you're doing your usual devil's advocate gadfly taking-a-position thing. In which case it really isn't funny.
How you vote is of course up to you.
