howeirdThis is the 25th anniversary of the start of the Berlin wall coming down. This was the day the Soviets declared they were done with the wall, and did not stop people from whacking away at it.
I was on vacation in Thailand, overnighting in a hotel at Laem Ngop (Frog Harbor) and had seen the news on TV and in the Thai language newspapers. The next morning I got onto a boat headed for Ko Chang (Elephant Island) where I had a reservation for a few days at a beach bungalow. Also on the boat were a pair of drop-dead-gorgeous German women, early 20s, world travelers. They had not seen the news, and when I told them, they were very angry that someone would play such a joke on them, and when we got to the bungalows they refused to have anything to do with me.
Until 2 days later, when the English language newspaper arrived. And then they invited me to join them on the clothing-optional beach.
