Got up early, had breakfast in the hotel with youngest & oldest sisters and their husbands. I think eldest nephew joined us, too. I was already mostly packed, went upstairs to finish that, then back down to the lobby to chat with whichever wedding survivors there were. At about 9:30 I went upstairs for final packing after big sister said she would knock on my door at 10 for one last hug before she & hubby went to the electronics museum. I went online one last time, 10 am passed, so did 10:30. My scheduled check-out time was 11, so I hauled my bags downstairs and checked out.

While I was waiting for the shuttle, the driver said she had found some luggage left in the parking lot. The ID tag had big sister's maiden name. Probably bags she gave to one of her kids. Odder was the hotel had someone registered under that name. My sister's name is not common at all, there would be only one in the world with both first & last names. Her married name is not so common. I tried to get them to look up her & her husband's names but they were not listening. I had no way to contact them, the Israelis did not ave working cell phones, so I left a message with MotheroftheGroom, who said she would take care of it. Anyhow the hotel manager brought the bags into his office.

Shuttle to the airport was pretty quick, there was almost no line at the check-in, and though the line was short at TSA, they were disorganized, and what should have taken 30 seconds took 10 minutes. It did not help that the people ahead of me had three boarding passes with the same name on them. TSA did not make it easy for them to turn around and go back to the ticket counter to fix that.

Business class turned out to be first class bulkhead seats on both legs. Nice to not be stuck in the middle, and nice to have a window seat, but Delta's fleet is almost as old as its stewardesses, and they make a lot of noise even at the front of the plane. Service was poor on both flights. On the BWI-Minneapolis leg there were only two attendants for the whole plane, and the lavatory was in back, none up front. Boo, hiss. The MIN-SJC leg was a larger plane, so three attendants, and one lavatory in front, which was nice. But the food was horrid, and it was clear that these people are not organized much.

BWI flight was smooth, but we went through turbulence for way too long in a couple of stretches around Utah. No word from the pilot at all - should have been something about trying to get us to a different altitude.

There was quite a wait for bags, and for the shuttle, but I was home by about 8:30, half an hour later than the vet said to not have Pumpkin eating. Close enough I figured.

Today started at 6 am, dropped Pumpkin off at the vet at 7:45 for what we expected to be a tooth cleaning with one extraction. Went to work early, built some filters on my 106 email items so that I would only see the ones which had my name in them. We get email every time anyone does anything with a bug, and whenever automation finds a problem or adds more test cases to their suite. The vet called at about 11:30, Pumpkin's teeth are a mess. He needed 14 extractions. At $60 each. Yikes!

Lunchtime, deposited checks at the CU, they too have the check scanner, but it's not as good as BofA's and didn't read the amounts on either check. Apartment, picked up a box with 4 litterbox refills. Asked the rep if maintenance could remove & store the walk-in closet doors. She said no, but I can do it myself as long as they go back before I move out.

Closed one bug which I had filed on an earlier release, and just as I was setting up for a new build on the new product, email arrived asking me to test a bug I'd found on the older product, so I needed to downgrade the software on the other machine and run some hour-long tests. The vet called again, told me old toothless woud b ready to pick up at about 4-4:30, which worked out fine. I could start the test running, and be back in time for the results.

Pumpkin was alert and looking a bit ragged. The vet showed me the x-rays, they looked a lot like mine before I had my extractions done. And like mine, his came out way too easily because they were already dead. The vet said it took a lot less time than he expected. The bill was just under $2k. Mine had cost $300. In 1975, in Bangkok.

Brought Pumpkin home, took Domino's food away before letting orange furball out of his cage. They are both hungry and more confused than mad about not having food. I tried to put a bowl of food for Domino on the cat tree, but Pumpkin leaped up on the first landing, and looked to be able to reach it. Dry food, which would not be a good thing for him.

I need to give him pain killers twice a day for 5 days, and he goes for a check-up in a week.

Back to work, the test sort of passed, so on to the next latest build, which passed too after an hour. By now it is 6:30, so I set up to re-test the original build, and it fails right away, but I left it running to see how often it dies.
To Costco for gas and to pick up the 2012 calendars. I also had decided to try the Motorola Bionic phone, since Baltimore had confirmed for me that the HTC Thunderbolt had problems staying connected to 4G or 3G. Several relatives had other Verizon phones, mine was the only one which could not connect everywhere. I thought it might be the unit, but a check online showed that something went wrong with the last update in July, and lots of people are seeing the same problem.

So I got the phone, which was about 1/3 of the Moto employee price, and will play with it for a few days. I have 2 weeks to turn it back in if I don't like it.

Home, hauled boxes of calendar and kitty litter and 20x30 photos to the apartment. Both cats are following me around. When I make myself a little microwave dinner, Pumpkin parks himself on the arm of the chair and tried to push his face into it. I manage to keep him at bay, but when it's just sauce, I figure that's okay, so I put the dish on the floor and let him lap it up. Normally he would not touch human food.

Took off the door on the study's closet, and propped it up against the wall inside. I'll find a better place for it later.

Time to give Pumpkin his pain meds.

Plans for tomorrow:
Put out some liquefied cat food
Medicate Pumpkin
Work
Home. Maybe there's football to watch.
Continue unpacking.
Remove the other two walk-in closet doors.

As of 11/7, my early termination fee on the HTC Blunderbolt would be $290. It goes down $10 a month. My bill is $90 a month. So no reason to hold onto the contract past that time if I decide to switch to the Moto Bionic. So far the Bionic had outclasses the HTC on everything except the time/weather widget. And maybe battery life. Which is rude because the HTC sucks batteries something insane.

Spent most of lunchtime putting the stuff onto the Moto which I have on the HTC, which was dumb because at home I was able to do it faster on the PC with android marketplace. Lunch was at Eric's Deli, worst pastrami ever - more gristle than meat. The clam chowder was thin but tasty. We need to find the person who says lemon juice belongs in clam chowder and hunt her down and fill her face with lemons.

I was there because Comcast next door had a hellacious line at 12:30. By 1:15 it was down to a trickle, I was able to get my name corrected on the bill, confirm that my STB had been returned, and be told that they could not put the correct +4 zip code on my bill because...the system. Having the same trouble with Allstate. USPS changed the +4 part of the zip for the apartment recently, but it's so easy to look it up on USPS.com. Database updates should be automatic, it's public domain information.

Back at work, I was cranking away verifying fixed bugs on the new machine when boss asked me to do one of those highly tedious tests on the old one. It went like this:
1. Load build x on the machine
2. Set up its IP addresss
3. Run a program on the PC
4. update to the latest build
5. Check to see if the IP addresses are still there
6. Lather, rinse, repeat with builds x+1, x+2, x+3 and x+4
7. Repeat steps 1-2 and 4-6
8. Show you work. Including screen captures of all the screens in step 3.

It took a while. It takes about 10 minutes to do step 1, most of it is waiting.

Went to Safeway after. Note to self: take Bowers, not San Thomas or Lawrence during rush hour. HOV lanes on the right-hand lane is criminally insane.

Home, the cats' liquid food bowl was empty, and the dry food for Domino up on the cat tree was almost so. Whipped up more liquid diet, which both cats ignored. Added kibble to Domino's bowl, and she eventually jumped up there but Pumpkin parked himself on the lowest level of the cat tree, looking for a way to get up there, but resigned himself to being in Domino's way.

Pumpkin is still very hungry. He tried to get some of my dinner again, but there's no way he could chew a pizza. I had to reposition him off the recliner and onto the floor.  Maybe I'll belnder in some of the kibble into the liquid food.

Plans for tomorrow:
Work
Spend time with the cats
