Not Dead Yet
Aug. 19th, 2017 09:06 pmWoke with the 7:30 alarm feeling like there was a 50-50 chance of going to the photo shoot at noon. The other 50 would be to take the car in to have the charger checked out. Back to sleep till 9.
Took my usual meds, plus a shot of Dayquil and two aspirin. Hgl at 10 am was 165, a little high for normal, but not bad for having a cold. Had a banana for breakfast. 11:30 took another shot of Dayquil and drove to the photo shoot. No one was there. Looked at the reminder email, and it is tomorrow. :-( Too late to take the car in, so I went back home.
Attacked the Big Garden Project de jour, pulling up the flagstones at the front of the garden and re-setting them upright instead of lying flat. Lee's suggestion - she had done the same to keep the blackbirds from tossing dirt into the street when they scratched for seeds. Those flagstones were heavy. Had to rest every 1/4 of the way.
That was not the rest I needed, and the cold came back. Had more chicken soup for lunch, plus three scoops of ice cream with magic shell, sprinkles and walnuts. Shot up 50 units of rapid insulin since that was a major carb intake plus the cold would raise my Hgl as well.
Boy did I guess wrong.
Felt like I was gonna die. Took off my pants and got into bed, raised the head of the bed. Spook joined me for a bit, then went to her usual perch on the window sill. Woke up about 2 hours later, shirt was soaked, was a bit disoriented, stumbled to the kitchen to take an Hgl reading but could not see the meter. Definitely having an insulin reaction. Took a minute but finally got a valid test - 56. Yikes. Two Klondike bars helped.
After half an hour, back to being just a guy with a bad cold. Made mint tea, and took a jar of PNB into the livingroom, fired up SlingTV/NFL network and watched the Titans vs the Jaguars stumble around the field. I was really waiting for the 49ers game.
7 pm, NFL network was blocked. Switched to CBS All access, and the game was on. But both NFL network and CBS are low resolution, have commercials, and cannot be recorded or paused. Local channels don't have a watchable signal here.
Called Comcast and got a deal where I could get all the channels and higher speed internet for a year at less than what I was paying for sling + CBS. So I signed up. Just need to wait for them to mail me the cable card for my Tivo (free).
Watched the first half of the 9ers game, and gave up after a couple of horrible plays and a bad call which gave the ball to Denver. The bad video was a major factor. I still have the game on, listening sort of.
Did a load of laundry, have to hang up the shirts. Then it'll be bedtime again.
Plans for tomorrow:
Sleep in
Photo shoot
plant some saffron bulbs
Maybe pull out two shrubs which are frying
Maybe get some Thai basil to keep on the kitchen table.
