Better Than Leeches
Sep. 29th, 2021 11:21 pm2 am Hgl was way low - in the 50's - so I self medicated with mint chip ice cream and a chocolate soda.
And paid for it with two hours of intermittent diarrhea. Managed to watch some Bachelor in Paradise between trips.
They announced the new Bachelor MC, and boy did they blow it. They chose another macho white man, Canadian, NFL failed QB turned ESPN analyst, who was a bachelor himself long ago. They need an American woman of color.
After breakfast (apple turnover) it was off to the PO to track down the package from Thailand which Thai Post and USPS both claim was delivered to my mailbox 3 days ago, but wasn't. Waited behind a man who had four large boxes, which the clerk weighed one by one and told him each would cost $40-$50. He was sending old clothes somewhere. Not worth it, and he was pissed. Took his boxes and fled. I'm sure there are les expensive ways to mail that stuff but the clerk was not helpful. She also was not helpful with me, sent me to the mail pickup line.
The employee there immediately realized from the unfamiliar tracking number that the manager was needed. Manager pulled up a screen on her computer which showed the carrier had scanned the wrong mailbox, realized the mistake, scanned the right one, but then had no secure place to put the package (it's too big for the mailbox, it needed to either go to one of the storage bins or be picked up from the PO). Manager said she expected the package or a pickup form to get to my mailbox today, she would call if not. No call, and not. :-(
Home, watched a little of Bachelor in Paradise, then headed to hematology where as usual there was a bit of a wait, but eventually was led through rows of people undergoing chemo to a comfortable recliner to have my BP measured (it was normal) and then I was hooked up to a needle and tube, and my blood was drained into what looked like a fancy plastic water bottle. It only took about 15 minutes for them to get 500 units, take my BP again (normal but a little lower). The tech got me a can of ginger ale and offered lorna doons and spicy corn chips, but I'd had lunch before I went so no thanks on the food.
No ill effects at first, but my ankles swelled up later. Enough to break out the foot bath and soak them in lavender Epsom salt.
Home, checked the mailbox again, no package, form or key to a storage unit. :-(
Caught up on news, watched the rest of the 3-hour semi-final Bachelor in Paradise in which several couples showed their love at the Prom, Noah bailed on the woman he had been dating since day 1. Natasha got abandoned again too. And they made the bartender the host for the week, which was weak. He has a great barside manner but fails as an MC. Annoying voice.
Watched another Outdoor Nevada, again the host is all gaga over desolate places.
Lunch was a Subway tuna sandwich, dinner was the second meatball sandwich. Reminded me why I don't go to Subway. I threw out the melted pizza sub, and may toss the two other sandwiches in the fridge. Maybe I'll drive out to Togo's.
Noticed a strong smell of cat pee when I turned on the livingroom fan. On closer inspection, Spook and Jade have used the basket of cat toys as a litterbox, #1 only thank heavens. In Sunnyvale the cat toys were scattered all over the house, so the realtor suggested it would be easier to sell the place if the toys were all in a basket. I found a nice woven basket at Cost Plus. So now the basket is in the trash bin, and I ran the non-electronic toys through the washer and dryer. Most of them survived. Had to run the clean cycle twice on the washer, then vacuum out the leftover bits. The toys are now on the floor by the livingroom cat tree. Spook already liberated one little ball. I may put a couple of toys in Jade's room, since she has been playing with one of the toys in there.
Tried to make an appointment for a booster shot on Walgreen's web site, but it said I already had an appointment. Programming FAIL, the appointment in question was for my 2nd shot last Feb. Called the 800 number but it wanted me to show up at 8 am.
Delivered today: 2 more pheromone diffusers, plugged them into outlets near Spook's favorite perch. Also a new designed nose hair trimmer, works good.
UPS did not pick up the Cox refused box.
Tomorrow:
Go to Walgreen's, get a booster if I can, otherwise make an appointment. I'm eligible because I'm >6 months from the second shot and over 65. I figure I will need the weekend to recover.
Call Richard's Mobile Home Service, the folks who fixed the carport roof next door, and arrange for an estimate on the porch, back door keypad and back door steps.
