Really? I had no idea you were a cephalophile.

There's a story behind my buying this particular batik. About 15 years ago, a nice young woman named Jenn answered my soc.singles personals posting. I was in either Hayward or Menlo Park at the time, she was at Dalhousie University in Halifax, going for her master's in marine biology. We kept in touch, she eventually earned a doctorate. Her thesis was on the way squid use their fins for locomotion. She is The Squid Doctor. When I saw this batik, it had her name on it, so to speak, and as soon as I got home I sent it to her. She's now Port Supervisor for a Canadian fisheries program on Vancouver Island. http://www.archipelago.ca/

She's from Vancouver originally, and I think the main reason she went to Halifax for her grad degrees is her grandfather founded the marine bio program at UBC and her father is a professor in that department. I'd have run screaming too, if I wanted to probe myself in the same field.
