Who's going to Silicon?

Whether I go or not depends on whether anyone I want to see is going. This con has some strikes against it:

1. They changed the date away from a long weekend
2. The GoHs are of no interest to me whatsoever
3. They have not updated their web site in more than a month (there is zero programming info and we're less than 2 weeks away)
4. They have not posted to their blog since June

And for out of towners, the room rate doesn't appear to be a discount, and it costs $10 a day for internet access.

On the other hand, the con is billed as a fund-raiser for a worthy cause:
SiliCon is a once-a-year Science Fiction Convention held by Siliconventions, Ltd. as a fundraising event for the Diabetes Society of Santa Clara Valley.

And it's only $45 at the door.

My feeling is that Silicon is just an excuse to hang around with a few friends, perhaps while wearing silly clothing. As a con, it's not so great, but it's a congenial meeting place.

I'll be there, courtesey of [livejournal.com profile] kalanasse having a free ticket. And with me having a free weekend.
