Bad News, Bad News, Good News

Bad News:
Thursday I was expecting to have a new vacuum cleaner waiting for me when I got home. After dinner I gave up waiting and got undressed to take a nap before going online. Which is when the doorbell rang, and there was UPS very very late, with the vacuum. Too late to do more than assemble it and RTFM.
Bad News:
I got laid off today
Good news:
I'll have plenty of time to  try out the vacuum cleaner.

Oh SHIT! I am so sorry!!!! Was this at all expected, as layoffs go, or a complete shock?

Guess you missed the earlier post. The handwriting was on the wall all week, as soon as my hiring manager left the company, new manager took over and put my work on hold, and assigned me and my two team mates to a project way out of my area of expertise. My lead engineer gave me a heads-up a couple of hours before the official word came down.

They announced a couple of weeks before that my group was being merged with a developers' group, but I had hoped they would find me a spot in a test group which could use me, rather than just throw me overboard. Microsoft usually switches people around rather than dumping them. The good news is my original manager's manager and people I know in two other groups are actively looking for something for me, so maybe I'll be back there soon. I also have a couple of headhunters looking for other opportunities.

I won't get too worried unless I don't find something in a month.

I scrolled back and saw the previous posts after I made my comment. Then, I felt stupid and too embarassed to admit my error. Which...er...I'm admitting now, I guess.
