TGIF

Busy day at work yesterday, more fun playing with the mash-up machine. Ironically I was too busy to go to campus mash-up day in the cafeteria.

After work went to the computer history museum and munched really good mini-spanikoptia, Swedish meatballs and assorted other horses' d' ovaries at the members reception, which ran out of food as usual at about 15 minutes before the lecture.  The hall was jam packed, which surprised me because the ad for the talk was not at all inspiring. "Great Principles in Computing".

Peter J. Denning was the speaker, and while I thought the content of his lecture was just so much academic hogwash, he is an excellent speaker, and one of the few CHM has had who actually told some funny jokes in the course of his talk. I didn't break out solitaire on my PDA till about 2/3 of the way into the speech.

More on this later. I'll do a blurb for SFSF and Drink Tank either tonight or over the weekend, with a couple of photos.

On the recommendation of a couple of my work buddies, I ordered a wifi modem which should be able to snag free Google wifi for my home. If it works, it will pay for itself in 4 months and give me 4x the speed of Comcast cable modem.

Today: More mash-up fun at work.
Tonight: Do some laundry, box up the external hard drive which sold on eBay at my "buy it now" price.
Tomorrow: PO, then rehearsals all day. We will block the final scene in the show, which is the only one in Act II where I am a central figure (much of my time being spent on the floor). I think I say 4 words in this scene, but I'm onstage for all of it. One more rehearsal where I could just as easily have phoned it in.

Huh... I get significantly better throughput from Comcast than I was able to get from Google WiFi. I generally get around 6mbps.

I was seeing significantly less than that (like 4mbps or thereabouts) standing underneath one of google's nodes, so I'm a bit skeptical...

Just out of curiosity, what's the brand/model of your wifi modem?
