In the Netflix grab bag yesterday was Still Crazy, Killer Shrews/We Bury The Living and The Last of the Blonde Bombshells.

Not being in the mood for Killer Shrews or people being buried alive, I slapped Still Crazy into the player. It's a Brit film about a 70's rock group being pulled together in 1998 for a huge re-union concert. Watched it, enjoyed it, made dinner and then put The Last of the Blonde Bombshells in the hopper. It's a Brit film about a 40's all-female dance band being pulled together in 2000 for a reunion concert.

Both films brilliantly cast, well-scripted, quite enjoyable. They pulled many of the same heart strings. Both used the ploy of making it a mystery whether or not one of the main characters would show up for the concert, or was even still alive.

The Still Crazy cast is mostly unknown to American audiences, though they are all yeomen of British theatre. Bombshells is a mini-who's who. Dame Judy Dench. Sir Ian Holm. Leslie Caron, Olympia Dukakis and Cleo Laine.

Pretty good music in both of them.
