finally made some long-awaited decisions, all of them bad for me and my co-workers. They decided not to renew my contract, which ends June 30. And they decided to move the whole VAIO QA department to San Diego, where the PCs are manufactured. As far as I can tell, none of the remaining contractors will remain past the end of September. They gave 8 people their 2-week notice, and another 8 or so were told that they are toast at the end of January. The rest of the employees are divided into two groups. One group will be offered a move to San Diego. The other group will have to apply for San Diego jobs if and when they open up, and compete for those jobs with other Sony employees.

The saddest part about this is that many of my contractor friends had just been made full-time employees, and all of them are probably in that second group.
