Writers With Drinks was a benefit for Other magazine, so I bought a couple of back issues while I was there. Last night I sat down to read them, and lo and behold, both had articles by johnnyeponymous.

off subject, just so you feel more in company at least, I have a nail split too that I have been, and will continue to be, protecting assiduously as it grows out. It didn't go the length, but it is right by an ugly rib in my thumb, where I think another bump could propigate it down.

I don't even know how I did it. of course it has this unfortunate habit of catching on *everything* if it is ever uncovered. I am beginning to think that irregularities in keritin unleashes magnetic properties, or perhaps concentrates those small molecule attractions the nanotech news lately has been talking so much about.

Any nail salon can armor plate it for you in a couple of minutes for a couple of bucks. Well worth the effort, IMHO.

I thought my nails got more ridgy after nail polish than before, so I'm trying to recover. If they get to that point though, yeah I'll go there.

Polish just clings to the existing ridges. The acrylic fills in the valleys and acts like grout in the splits, giving you a level armor plate.
