On the TiVo was this weekend's Saturday Night Live, with both Tina Fey and Sarah Palin. The similarity is so amazing I could not tell them apart even during the 6 seconds when they were on stage together. I think if someone digs through Tina's past they will find the adoption papers showing she was one of a pair of identical twins, the other went to a couple in Idaho.

Palin didn't do much on the show, but she was a good sport. SNL totally wasted their opportunity, opting to have the very pregnant Amy Poehler do a mediocre Palin rap number. They would have done better to have Palin, a former newscreature, do some of the Weekend Update news bits. They would have done even better with a Poehler-Palin skit on having a baby.

I was also kind of shocked at how rude Tina Fey was, not looking at Palin, and not coming out for the "all hands on deck" final segment. A handshake would have been a nice gesture. After all, Palin paid your rent for the rest of the year. And I'm talking about 30 Rock as much as SNL.

Obama and Biden are, of course, above all this.

I only stayed through the opening. I was shocked at how rude Alec Baldwin was - or at least how bad an actor. She was a good sport.

Obama and Biden aren't "above" it, but if you saw how awkward Obama was at the AESmith dinner you'd know why he wouldn't be comfortable there. But otherwise, they don't have a reason to like Palin.

Baldwin is a bad actor, and did not want to be there. My guess is Tina Fey told SNL she would not talk to Palin so they snagged her co-star to do the nasty deed. The script was written for Alec to mildly insult Sarah, and for Sarah to return the favor.

As for Obama being awkward in a comedy role, it's one more reason I'm undecided. A President needs a sense of humor. Biden has one, but he's stayed away from SNL and The Daily Show. Sounds like "above it" to me.

Not everybody gets invited. I think you're assuming some sort of snobbery without evidence. (I honestly don't know why they've not been there - but I'm not willing to say things like "he knew a terrorist therefore is a terrorist" or "he didn't appear therefore he's a snob". Semantically and logically, those are equivilent statements, and the latter may not be what you mean, but what I'm hearing.)

IMHO also, not everyone awkward with scripted humor is humorless. I've heard Obama be quite "naturally humored". Anyone in his circumstance would feel pressure to be always on "his best behavior", so his awkwardness may be related to that (maybe not).

You betcha. It also means I'm above running for Vice President.

Not everybody gets invited
Everyone running for President and Vice President does. Even Ralph Nader, who has all the charisma of a mud flat, has been on.

But I should clarify something. Biden, McCain and Obama all did segments on The Daily Show during the primaries. But only McCain and Palin have been on comedy TV since being nominated.

I'd like to see a confirmation that both Obama and Biden were invited... you're right, they likely were, but in absence of evidence I give benefit of doubt.
