Doubt has been nominated for Best Picture, but I think the ending disqualifies it. Major spoilers below the cut, so if you have not seen the movie, do not

All through the movie, Meryl Streep's character, Sister Aloysius Beauvier, is strong, confident, and hides her emotions. Several times she shows she is a caring person, but she does it without any public display of emotion. In the final scene she breaks down and cries, saying "I have doubts".

I have no problem with her saying she has doubts, her character is drawn as human and the preponderance of evidence in the last 3 minutes of the film has swung against her. But her character was also drawn to state her doubts in a matter of fact manner, sans leaky eyes.

But this is a very YMMV movie, so a poll:

Haven't seen the movie, but as I noted to you before, I saw the play. Cherry Jones did *not* cry in the play, though even without actual weeping, the final line was just a bit off. People just don't ham it up that much; she had to deliver it straight to the audience, breaking out of the set. Weird, disconcerting. Cherry Jones is terrific.

Tears would have been waaaay over the top.
