Song on the tip of my Brain

Someone posted something on FB which triggered a vague memory of a song I used to have on cassette tape. By someone like Lobo - male singer, romantic nostalgia, not a lot of orchestration, a quiet song. The basic idea is he knew there was love in the house before, and can't figure out where he put it. Or where it went. I seem to remember a line in the chorus about "in a box behind the door" and a couple of other places someone might leave something by mistake. Charming song, but it refuses to come into focus.
