Putting the Foo back in Food

I'm staying at a Day's Inn near a truck stop off Interurban Ave in Tukwila, WA. Rumors that Gozilla ate Tukwila are slightly exaggerated, but not by much. One reason I booked this place is because the last time I stopped for gas (it's the cheapest before the high airport prices) I ate at a very nice place called Emerald Green which had moved into a deserted Denny's.

It's now closed, and its parking lot is leased out to a trucking company. Boo hiss.

A small group of places have opened up a block away - Starbucks, Quizno's, some generic Mexican Cantina, Teriyaki. And there's been a Jack in the Box on the corner for years. But I was looking for a nice sit-down steak-like place, so I consulted the GPS which pointed me to Gordo's Steak & BBQ about a mile away. The place it took me to is now the lounge for a golf course, and there was a sign that they had a Superbowl BBQ buffet. The game was over, and no buffet in sight, so I ordered a cup of clam chowder and a rack of baby back ribs. Half an hour later both arrived together. After finishing the thin soup, I attacked the huge plate of ribs. Couldn't cut through it. It was either way underdone or way overdone, I couldn't tell. I sent it back and asked for half a different rack. Instead, 20 minutes later the waiter brought back the same rack, cut into sections and  hightailed it out of the dining area. Still inedible. I dropped some bills on the table and walked out.

Back to the motel, where I had some noodles and German chocolate cake which I'd bought at Safeway previously.

Dining Options near Days Inn, Tukwila

Hi. I stumbled on your blog via Google. Sorry to hear about your recent dinner didn't provide that WOW experience. Have you tried Duke's at Westfield Southcenter for Clam Chowder? Some carnivore friends of mine have been happy (and by happy I mean stuffed and smiling) at Famous Dave's in Tukwila. There's a "local spot" called Galliano's just down the street from the Days Inn Tukwila. Galliano's is nothing fancy but it's a quick little sit-down meal and I find their hot chicken philly on the homemade french bread delish and on the filling side. Hope this helps for next time.

Thanks for the suggestions. Southcenter I try to avoid, mostly for the idiotic traffic patterns but also for its size. Famous Dave's is actually in SeaTac, the other side of the airport from Tukwila, and I've eaten there a couple of times & agree with your friends. Galliano's looked like it was closed when I passed by, but I'll try again tonight.
