Yes, We Have No Bananas

There are two bananas in my in-basket. Looking at them launched the earbug you see in the subject line, which in turn launched a "how old is he?" memory. I am so old that when I was in college the only time you could get bananas at the grocery store was when they were "in season". I don't remember which months those were, but I'm sure it wasn't this month.

I remember when you could smell where the produce was in an unfamiliar store. Now I can not smell the apples when I am standing right next to them. Sigh.

that's actually good news. The reason you could smell the produce is they kept it too warm. When I worked in apple country in Eastern Washington, they were very careful to keep the apples cool so they wouldn't spoil. You can still get that warm produce smell in many of the Asian and Mexican markets.
