Foreclosure Play
Oct. 8th, 2010 03:42 pmBank of America added its name to the short list of lending institutions which have halted foreclosures. It's temporary and they only did it because they didn't want to get sued for using unread documents as evidence. If they can do this on their own, I'd bet that Obama and Co. could have halted foreclosures completely and forced banks to re-negotiate bad mortgages.

Date: 2010-10-09 07:27 am (UTC)Perhaps you have noticed that Obama's staff has been deserting him at a record pace?

Date: 2010-10-09 07:38 am (UTC)More importantly, Obama is a man. He makes choices. Some times good, some times bad. Over all, I think his head and his heart are in the right place. Would I have changed something if I could? Yes, of course. Did he fail on some stuff? Yes, of course. His most gutsy move, IMHO< is to force the spineless Democrats into the Health Care Reform. Yeah yeah yeah, it's nowhere enough, but a heck better than before.
But I am 100% sure that the US is a much better place than during the Bush Era or if McCain had won.

Date: 2010-10-09 04:51 pm (UTC)How? My COBRA runs out next month and Kaiser wants $800/month from me to sign up for individual coverage. The last time this happened to me in 2001, it was $500/month, with lower co-pays.

Date: 2010-10-09 05:33 pm (UTC)Because our insurance, which runs for $1300+ a month, has been raising 25% every year for the last 6-8 years and we keep having to get less coverage.
The system is broken. We need change. Get the uninsured insured. That will drive down the cost of emergency room care that everyone is funding.
Eliminate the medical handcuff of pre-existing conditions. That will allow some people to change jobs and get more people on to the health care system.
Employee funded healthcare is a fluke of history. It's broken. It breaks for small businesses, it breaks the unemployed and self-employed. The big companies are now making employees paying most of the premium.
Personally, I would not touch Kaiser unless there is absolutely no other choice.

Date: 2010-10-09 08:38 pm (UTC)The bill guarantees coverage for people with pre-existing conditions. Big whoop - it does NOT restrict what the insurance companies can charge for that. When the time comes, you won't be able to afford it.
I personally love Kaiser. I've been with them for most of the last 25 years, and my only complaint is they don't cover ED medications. But then neither do most of the other plans. I've heard horror stories about all the hospitals in the area, probably has to do with them being run by human beings.
The emergency room argument is bogus. People crowd the emergency rooms whether or not they have coverage. It's called instant gratification. Why plan ahead?

Date: 2010-10-09 09:42 pm (UTC)As for not able to afford. You didn't read carefully, did you? $1300+ for a family is not affordable NOW.
As for emergency rooms. I just respectfully suggest that you go to emergency rooms some times and see for yourselves. I know FAR too many people with no insurance. I speak from my experience. If you do too, great. If not, then you are just being insulting.
