Happy birthday, booter! (aka [livejournal.com profile] cat_herder)

Just because I had to, I have created three LJ communities in honor of the LJ BOF session at SiliCon:

[livejournal.com profile] wetsuitpaintbal
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] johno, who suggested there may be a community of people who enjoy wearing wetsuits while having paintballs shot at them.

[livejournal.com profile] n_abusersanon
Nitrogen Abusers Anonymous, which was suggested in a roundabout way by N-aholoic extraordinairre  Doug B. (whose LJ name I do not know, but [livejournal.com profile] johno and [livejournal.com profile] figmo do).

And my contribution, the ever-popular [livejournal.com profile] 40plusiso20plus

I guess there are more places closed for the Italian holiday than I thought. Normal work day for me, and good on it too.

How could anyone celebrate the birthday of a guy who couldn't tell the difference between the people of India (whom he must have seen, since his job was to find a better trading route to them) and the people he brought STDs and various and sundry other diseases to? The languages, dress, build, coloring and food of the two continents are entirely different.

I can understand him not "getting it" that he had found a whole new world. A new fantastic point of view. (stop me before I Disney again!). But he kept making the mistake over and over again.

And he kept getting paid for it.

But my real reason for posting this is it's awfully boring here when none of my regular FL peeps are making noise here.

The choice is between attending the Church of Monday Night Football, which features my sister's home team Ravens, and the weekly BASFA meeting. BASFA will either be packed with people inspired to attend on the heels of SiliCon, the latest SFSF issue, and Chris For TAFF, or it will be sparsely attended for the very same reasons. I don't think there can be a middle ground here. Personally, I prefer BASFA uncrowded. The venue's aircon can't handle the crowd, and neither can their kitchen.

Decisions, decisions.

Because of something I posted on [livejournal.com profile] cinchntouch's LJ, I have been trying to remember a single biblical wedding. I have a very strong Old Testament education, and not a bad New Testament one for a non-believer, but I cannot remember a single description of a wedding from either one.

There are plenty of "and he knew his wife" in the first 5 books, and at least one "he worked on her father's fields for 7 years and was given his eldest daughter", but nothing even remotely approaching the ceremonies we see in Synagogues and Churches today.

Can anyone point me at a Biblical basis of "till death do us part", and the other related vowstuff?
