These really are gorgeous pictures. We are hoping to go back to Viet Nam in about three years. After looking at your pictures I want to see if we can't stop in Thailand for at least a few days.
Khoi's sister went for a few weeks a few years ago and had only nice things to say about it. I took a ton of pics in Viet Nam, I should see if I have some and share them.
Thanks. This was the annual Loi Krathong festival in the ancient capitol city of Suhkothai where the festival originated about 800 years ago. It used to be a one-day affair, culminating in the evening with everyone going down to the river and launching "krathongs", which are little floats with flowers and a lit candle. The longer the candle stays lit, the better luck you will have next year. Now it lasts a week, and they have a parade with floats representing about 30 provinces.
Lots more details are in my Thai travelogue, here.
